Chancel staff work within the statutory requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage; in order to provide the very best education for the children in their care. The school welcomes support and expertise offered by county inspectors, advisory teachers, educational support services, governors, parents, members of the local community and outside agencies.
The National Curriculum is statutory and requires the school to teach Core Subjects: English, Maths, Science and Computing, and Foundation Subjects: Design Technology, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education and Art.
All staff consistently demonstrate high expectations of themselves and their pupils; through their understanding and application of the 2014 curriculum objectives, which have been personalised, to meet the needs of Chancel pupils and community. This has been further enhanced by the introduction of Chancel’s Creative Hub, providing opportunities for children to participate in a wide range of activities including: painting, clay modelling, printing and cooking. Subjects are taught through themes, topics and enrichment activities; reflecting the interest, imagination and maturity of the children. Due to Chancel serving a predominantly white-British catchment, our curriculum has a pronounced focus on the teaching of life in modern Britain. Leading to pupils demonstrating an understanding of, and respect for, others' cultures and beliefs.
We see our school as a centre for learning for all who are involved in it - not just the children, but all the staff, parents and carers who are a part of our school community.
"Students are particularly proud of their achievements in art, sport and music. Pupils enter competitions and get many opportunities to learn from the best and show off what they can do. This helps them grow in confidence and aim high."
We have mapped out the curriculum coverage showing what will be taught and when it will be taught. Click on the links below to view the curriculum coverage for each subject area. Please note that as Art and Computing are predominantly skills based and so will be delivered in relation to the most appropriate topic.
